PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
